I had the opportunity to attend last Tuesday’s LIBA lunch, and boy am I glad I did. There was a lively debate between Jeff Fortenberry and his Democratic opponent. As far as debates go, it was fairly informative and there were just enough political jabs going back and forth to make it entertaining.

But I have to say the best part of the event was when I had the opportunity to award a brand new notebook computer to Paige from Strictly Business Magazine. Paige recruited 19 new members for LIBA’s membership drive, besting all others in the effort.

For the first time ever, Schrock Innovations will be holding a launch event open to the media to kick off our 2006 Holiday PC. The Holiday PC Launch Event will be held on Friday, November 3, at the Villager Inn and Suites in the Lincoln Ballroom from 2-4 PM. We will be giving away special discounts to those in attendance and there will be a drawing for a free weekend in a Branson, MO condominium!

We will have a number of awesome speakers present interesting content including Coby Mach – the host of 1400 KLIN’s Drive Time Lincoln, Mayor Colleen Seng (or a representative from her office), Rod Scher, Editor of Smart Computing Magazine, Gene Hanlon with the city of Lincoln Recycling Office, and of course, Thor Schrock from Schrock Innovations.

As many of you know, the popular search engine Google regularly tasks it graphic artists to craft variation of its logo to celebrate holidays large and small. For example, Google recently adjusted their logo to honor Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Birthday. They also change it for major holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving and the 4th of July.

So when I woke up this morning and found the standard Google logo on www.google.com, I was a bit shocked. I checked around some Google forums on the web and found that I was not the only one who was surprised at the lack of a change.

Some people gave Google the benefit of the doubt with excuses ranging from “their graphics designers took a long weekend” to “Google is international and this is an American holiday.” Each of those excuses is flawed because taking the day off to honor those who you refuse to honor on your website would be truly ironic, and if anyone has the ability to detect what country a visitor is coming from it would be Google. Seriously, Google can tell me what HOUSE visits my website in some cases!

My wife and I had a wonderful time tonight at the Young Republicans wine tasting fundraiser at Coby Mach’s home in Lincoln, Nebraska. Typically there are a million of these things BEFORE an election, so it was nice for a change to come to an event where people were there to relax and interact without agendas.

I did find myself pulled into a business discussion with a couple of people over the competitive nature of the local computer industry. With the recent news about Schrock and the media interest it is generating I suspect many more of these informative discussions will follow in the near future.

Listen up computer shop owners out there! whatever you do, do not do business with notebookparts.com or any other company owned by Abbassi Rahim (a.k.a. “John”)!

This company is questionable at best in my opinion. I ordered a new 8x CD-RW drive for an older Gateway laptop from notebookparts.com. I received a used, defective drive. I called notebookparts.com and Abbassi Rahim agreed to send me a replacement. The replacement was supposedly *new* but is also defective.
