Last year my TV got destroyed during a thunder storm. Since then I’m using a surge protector for my stereo, PC and TV. The only thing is, there are so many different models out there, some are really cheap, others are quite expensive. How can I now, the equipment I’m using is really capable of protecting my electronic devices?
I’ve always considered surge protection to be extremely important too, especially for sensitive or costly equipment like computers. I connect an UPS to the mains and plug a surge protector in one of the UPS sockets.
Another great segment for your Thor! Lots of great little nuggets of knowledge that you gave. Didn’t’ know the surge protectors were measured in Joules. Pretty nice that the surge protectors that you have chirp to alert you that they no longer effective.

I have been using a surge protector on my computers since 2002 and never had a problem 🙂
My business computer got fried last month by a power surge.
I’ve now got a new PC with a UPS and surge protector box combined. The UPS cost £350.00
But It was well worth the money, as the hassle I had with lost data was Something I would rather not repeat.
