Schrock Innovations Gets a Big Thank You from the National Guard

A couple months ago a member of the National Guard 1/209 RTI out of Camp Ashland asked us if we could spare a couple dead hard drives for a training exercise they were planning.
Schrock had a couple hard drives that had been wiped clean and were slated for destruction, so we donated them instead.ย I honestly thought they would blow them up or something, but what they ended up using them for was a whole lot more fun than that!
A few days ago we received this video and a beautiful plaque thanking Schrock for the donation.
In the video you will see the 3rd Platoon on an exercise to retrieve the data storage devices from a downed UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) in a hostile environment.
You can see the soldiers move into a protective formation around the objective before recovering the data storage device.
It was a real treat to get a surprise like this, and we are all happy that we were able to help our soldiers in a small way.

What a great use for some dead hard drives. You must’ve been quite proud to be able to help out with that donation.
I didn’t expect that outcome from reading this post either. Whatever contribution we can make to help those making much more significant sacrifices is well worth it.
That is totally cool. You must feel very proud to have contributed to an important training exercise like this. ๐
You will be thouroughly trained everyday so that when you get deployed, you are ready. Plus the money you will be making as an officer in the military is amazing..
That is really cool. I am surprised that they sent you a video. Its great that they were able to come to you and get what they needed for training. How resourceful.
Hey that’s pretty cool. You guys managed to contribute to tactical operations.
Didn’t get the point of the exercise at all!! Seriously.. what are they trying to do?
Wow, that is really awesome Thor! Can only imagine the feeling it must of been when you first saw this video! ๐
What a great use for some dead hard drives. (:

It’s great that they were able to reuse dead hard drives like this. Too often, broken computer hardware just ends up in the trash. It’s much better when it can be reused or recycled. Does Shrock have any kind of recycling program for customers’ old hardware?
Actually I would have used the stepper motors from the dead hard drives to create automated pieces of machinery that could do something after I introduced some programs in a mini-controller chip, man that would be fun:)
The National Guard is great!
