Its Time to Do Something the Democrats Never Did

Well, the lights are out and the party is over – for McCain supporters anyway. Just a few words of clarity the day after an election.

Right now is the time to pray for for our president elect and hope that he has the ability to lead us forward for the next 4 years.

There will be mistakes, but in the end we are all Americans and we are one nation under God. Let’s do something that the Democrats never did – let’s unite behind our president and heal as a nation.

The sun will come up tomorrow. Just because the election is over does not mean the battle of ideas has ended. This election shows that when you line a moderate up against a liberal, the liberal wins every time. This is a phyrric victory that illustrates the need for a strong conservative candidate in the next presidential election.

The voters have given Obama a chance and I think it will shock many people how few things will change under Obama in the short term.

Healing does not mean agreeing necessarily, but it does mean that we must support our president despite how we feel about him. He will have his referendum in 4 years and in the mean time we all need to be watching, listening, and most of all remembering so we can hold him accountable to his word.

From this conservative in exile, congratulations to Barack Obama and all of his supporters on a campaign well done.

I’m looking forward to this term that will be led by Obama. He’s a very intelligent man and that’s exactly what the US needs right now, a smart President for a change. Lol! 😉

By your tone I am guessing you are a conservative/republican which isn’t a bad thing, I’m just saying. However, you make a point to say we need to watch, listen and hold Obama accountable to his word. Why did no one hold Bush accountable for ANYTHING in his 8 years. We are coming off the worst financial crisis since 1929, heading into a depression (the recession is already here) and conservatives wanted more of the same? It really can’t get any worse. I do agree with you that things aren’t going to change quickly and people have to realize Obama doesn’t even take office for another 2.5 months.

I do think however, things can shore up quickly if the right people are put in the right place. Unlike bush in 2001, there is no pre-set agenda to go to war. In fact, I think Obama is the only candidate that has actually told us his exact plans for pulling out of Iraq and focusing on what really matters which is the war on greed and poverty back home.

Let us not forget, the President’s job isn’t to “protect the country from terrorists” it is to uphold and defend the Constitution and it is the people’s duty to ensure he does just that. There’s a line in the Declaration of Independence that sums this up: “But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and provide new Guards for their future security.”

I believe the American people have done just that. They have rejected the current president and all he and his party stand for and have voted overwhelmingly for change. Sorry to wax so political on this but it is important.

@James I can tell you strongly believe what you write, but I would throw up one challenge to your assumptions that transcends it all – Bush ran as a conservative and he did not govern as one. There is a difference between a Republican and a Conservative and Bush was not a conservative.

I agree with you there. Bush didn’t put his money where his mouth was and failed on just about every promise he made. I know we can do much better as a people and as a country.

I have never understood why our elected officials are not held accountable. How many times we have heard of sexual misconduct (Clinton for example), bribery, stealing, etc. from presidents, senators, and congressmen, and they just continue on in office as though nothing happened. Where are the standards? Time will tell how Obama does, but at this point he seems on track to turn our country around. People around the world seem to be listening to him, and looking for positive change. Let’s pray that’s how it turns out. God knows our country, and world, need it!
