Trust is Essential in the Computer Repair Business

From time to time startup entrepreneurs ask me for some advice about success in business. I always tell them rule #1 is never give up – no matter what. Rule #2 is that honesty pays.\

This video is a perfect example of how a few small untruths can muck up the reputation of a computer repair shop. Even the mighty Geek Squad was caught on hidden camera “misdiagnosing” this computer’s obvious problem.

The one factor that keeps Schrock customers coming back again and again is trust. Our customers trust that we will give them the best possible scenarios for their equipment, and they trust that we will do what we say we are going to do.

Watch the video to see which shop owner gets caught red handed on hidden camera trying to cheat his customer!

I advise a lot of computer consultants on how to handle their computer repair businesses, and I definitely know that relationships are what it’s all about! You can’t get the kind of clients that will be steady and reliable if you do not focus on building strong relationships, and thus your business will be doomed to failure. That’s why I really stress that people in business for themselves targeting small businesses can’t try to compete with the big repair “chains” like Best Buy and Comp USA that charge rock-bottom prices. You get what you pay for, after all, and in order to be a long-term force within the industry, you have to get clients to know, like and trust you. Part of this is offering great services and sophisticated support, which means you have to charge higher rates to attract the type of people that believe in this type of investment and will appreciate you!
I offer some consulting tips in my blog about computer consulting and computer repair geared towards those at various stages of their businesses within the industry. Thanks for the helpful blog post!
