The latest edition of Smart Computing Magazine is hitting subscribers today and my article on how to remove Spyware from your PC got front cover attention this month.
I have a featured article in this month’s Smart Computing magazine on page 39 that tells you in a step-by-step way how to remove malware from your computer using the free programs AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy.
Smart Computing is a great magazine for people who love their computers but are not geeks. If you are not a subscriber, I would highly recommend you look into it!

Thank you for this article. Please continue to post your Smart Computing articles on your blog. What is your opinion on Windows Defender? I use its real time protection capabilities. The way I see it is if one gets bad spyware on his computer it’s going to be very difficult to remove the spyware. Better to format and reinstall the operating system.
For those who are visually impaired you can receive the Smart Computing magazine in cassette format from your local NLS library. National Library Service. This is a free service for the blind.
It really depends on the Malware. Some of it you can remove without to much trouble, just by running Adaware, or Spybot. I haven’t tried the Maintenance Check Up Home Edition, but I hear it can tackle a lot of bugs too.
There’s also the possibility of rebooting your computer in safe mode, running SmitRem and then running Adaware (and maybe spybot). I checked out the Schrock Tutorials, and some lot of them show you how to do that for removing adware.
If that doesn’t work then yeah, it may be best just to return to a restore point, or reinstall the OS. But keep in mind that in order to remove the spyware for sure, you’ll have to wipe the hard drive too.
I get smart computing Magazine. I’ll have to read up on the article.
Do you write for them every monbth now? You have had articles in the past three issues. What’s next PC World?
